Grant Guidelines

The PURPOSE of the CAPE CORAL COMMUNITY FOUNDATION is to support the public well-being and to improve the quality of life in the greater Cape Coral community through the stewardship of permanently endowed and gifted funds by:

  • Exercising philanthropic leadership in identifying and addressing community needs and opportunities.
  • Attracting and managing charitable gifts and bequests primarily in the form of permanent endowments.
  • Using these assets to make prudent and creative grants to address community needs in education, health, religion, cultural affairs or social welfare.

Requirements

  • Applicant must be a qualified not-for-profit charity under Section 501(c) (3) of the Internal Revenue Code.
  • Applicant must offer services, which have a positive impact on the Greater Cape Coral Community.
  • Applicants must elect a governing board, and conduct business without discrimination on the basis of race, religion, gender, sexual orientation, a national origin, or disability.
  • Applicants must submit one original and two copies of the completed application, program/project narrative, and supporting documentation.
  • Applications must be postmarked on or before July 10, 2008. Any applications postmarked after that date will not be considered. Grant applications can be mailed or hand delivered.

  • Applicants may submit no more than one (1) grant application per cycle.
  • If an agency applies to other sources for funding of the same program/project and receives funding, the agency must notify the Foundation immediately.
  • Agencies have one (1) full year to request funds awarded. If the funds are not requested within one (1) year, the grant is rescinded and the monies included in the next funding cycle for distribution to other agencies.

Guidelines

  • The Foundation offers funding for a wide array of projects but generally does not offer funding for travel, training/seminars, staff salaries and/or general operating expenses.
  • Funding requests are generally considered within the $1,000 to $3,000 range.
  • All applications and attached materials will not be returned.
  • Any questions should be directed to Cape Coral Community Foundation at 542-5594.
  • Individual Foundation Board or Committee members should not be contacted regarding the grant application.
  • Grant applications meeting the purpose and/or annual criteria for the Giving Alliance of Women grant program will be directed to the Giving Alliance of Women Grant Committee.
  • The General Grant Committee and the Giving Alliance of Women Grant Committee will adhere to the criterion set forth in this document.

Criteria

  • Program/project’s potential benefit to the community.
  • Program/project’s innovative response to community needs.
  • Program/project’s non-duplication of efforts.
  • Agency’s ability to achieve the proposed program/project.
  • Agency’s ability to monitor and measure program/project outcomes.
  • Agency’s ability to maintain community support and obtain continued funding for programs and projects.
  • Availability of Foundation’s funds.

Process

  • Grant applications will be assigned to Grant Committee members. You may be asked to meet with your assigned committee member, and we will request a site visit to your program. A staff member may call with further questions.
  • The Grants Committee will then meet and prepare the committee recommendations for funding. These recommendations are presented to the full Board of Directors of the Cape Coral Community Foundation for final approval.
  • Every attempt will be made to have final funding decisions no later than October 2008.
  • You will be notified by mail of our decision.
  • An awards ceremony will occur in November 2008. Recipients will be invited to attend this event.

Funding

  • Agencies awarded grant funds must submit a request for the funds to the Foundation office. The request must provide adequate documentation to support the funding of the project.
  • Agencies have one (1) full year to request funds awarded. If the funds are not requested within one (1) year, the grant is rescinded and the monies included in the next funding cycle for distribution to other agencies.

Evaluation

  • All grant recipients are required to provide the Foundation with a progress report after 12 months. A form will be sent to all grant recipients. Subsequent grant proposals from grantees receiving the funds from the Foundation will only be considered following receipt of the evaluation.
